Gorgeous Weekend

I’m relaxed and ready to go back and face another week. All of the tensions and stresses have been untied, untangled, and smoothed out. I feel wonderful. :)

Had a bit of a scare with Kip yesterday; we’d gone out for a ride on the roads, and I got off of him at one point because there were cars trying to pass in either direction, and he was too afraid of the storm drain to get close to the sidewalk. Being a “short arse” (as Phil would say), and too small to climb up on an excited colt roughly the size of a small brontosaurus safely, I walked him onto the school grounds to get back up using a handy fence. There was a hedge with purple flowers backing the hedge, and he took the opportunity to grab a couple of mouthfuls. Crap. I know that rhododendrons, etc., are very poisonous to horses, but I had no idea what they look like; too late anyway. Less than five minutes after that, Kip was going mad, rubbing his mouth on his legs and finally even trying to scrub it along the ground. Obviously an extremely toxic plant. We made it back to the stable, and washed his mouth out with water; he seemed to get better. Not knowing what else to do, I finally put him back in pasture. Later I looked it up online, and found that he would have needed several pounds for it to kill him. But it was a scare. He seems fine today, no blistering or anything in his mouth, acting normally. Or as normal as Kip ever is. ;)

Phil’s parents came over with their extra-long ladder and a pressure washer so that we could finally remove the evil pigeons from the gutter over our front door. (We have a three-story house, and needed a very long ladder.) SO nice to have a clean, shiny, non-embarrassing house again, with a serious roll of wire netting in the gutter. Take that, you little bastards – go shit somewhere else. :P

Not much else to write. I’m too happy and lazy today.

PS: We rented an interesting movie this weekend: Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses. I loved it. Phil was less enthralled, but admitted that it was one of the more unique movies he’s ever seen.

  1. Awww…he’s such a beautiful boy! What a shame he tasted things that are bad for him. I’m glad it didn’t affect him too much.

Yay for feeling re-energized. I feel completely the same way. :) *big hugs*

  2. Thank you – I love him so much. I don’t think I’ve ever had a horse that I care for as much as I do him.

  4. Yes – more energy is DEFINITELY a good thing! I think part of it has to do with it being summer. I love summer.
